Kitchen Tour

Kelly is hosting Show Us Where You Live Fridays.
I almost didn't do this, because my kitchen is my least favorite part of my home. I never know how to decorate it. But maybe I'll get some helpful ideas from the comments. Fruits and vegetables just aren't my thing. And decorating with animals (cows, pigs, roosters, etc.) are out because I can't decorate with an object that I eat.
So here is my kitchen. I think it is a good size and I love my countertops and my cabinets.
What I don't love is all that space at the top of the cabinets. I have 12' celings, so it just seems like a huge blank boring space. I have NO IDEA what to put up there. I threw those vases up there so they wouldn't break before I found a permanent place for them

I love my fireplace in the kitchen. It makes it so cozy in the winter.
Here is the breakfast area that is off the kitchen. I love the fabrics on the curtains and the chair! I also love how the table is on the angle. I had it straight for years & someone turned it for me and what a difference it made!

Hope you enjoyed. I hope even more that you have ideas for the tops of my cabinets!

Love the fireplace in the kitchen. The wall area above the cabinets would look nice with a mural, faux painting, or even a different color of paint. Some ideas.

Great Kitchen - You can do TONS of cute stuff with that space above your cabinets...pick a theme and go with it - I used wine in my kitchen. Get some cute pictures and put them on easels up there, maybe some pretty bottles/jars filled with something?? or add some greenery, I added a vine of berries and it adds some nice color to the space...just some thoughts!..the possibilities are endless! :)

Oh - I'm so glad you showed your kitchen. I just LOVE your house. I came home yesterday and was trying to think of things I could do around here to make it look better like yours. ha! I love that fireplace in the kitchen - that's so different and European looking! ;-)
Thanks for playing along!!!!

I love your kitchen, too--especially that fireplace and your eating area. You are LUCKY to have such high ceilings!!! I don't think that space is akward at all. If you're looking for ideas, though, do you ever do HGTV. com and look at kitchens in their Rate My Space section. I can spend hours looking through the rooms on there and I'm sure you'll find some inspiration.

Love the kitchen, especially the fire place.

Do you have anything you collect? I used to live in an aparment with space like that in the kitchen and i had a collection of cookie jars. I also had some greenery up there with some pointsettas and pearl looking garland during Christmas.

We have not had space like that since I got married, but we may move soon and I would love a house with a kitchen like that!

Good luck!

Your kitchen has so much character!!! I agree it is hard to decorate with things you eat ( I am an ex-vegetarian LOL)Thank you for opening up your home!

I love the fireplace and painting above it. The high ceilings are a challenge, but you could start with some big baskets to add texture up there. Then add some tall art work. Like 3 tall and skinny paintings - a triptych. You have a beautiful kitchen already.

Love your kitchen! I think you are off to a great start with your decorations on your fireplace. You can do something similar above the cabinets. Just throw some greenery up there and put different vases, prints on easels, rod-iron stuff...anything really. Have fun!

oh, your kitchen is just gorgeous! My suggestion for the space over your cabinets is script.....a favorite bible verse or words from a favorite poem or song. There are craft stores that will special order the verse in the size you want in decal form...you just peel and stick. I love the look! Blessings from a Grammie in Canada

i love your kitchen. i have some thoughts for you. first, the space above the cabinets is always hard. the vases are nice, but group them together rather than spread them out so they don't get lost. fill them rocks, marbles, pastic berries or even coffee beans to add some color/fillers. as for the decor in the room. i don't do fruit or animals but we're HUGE coffee drinkers so we used cafe/coffee feel. hence our cafe blog. email me if you want some other ideas or to see pics of mine. melissajasmine@gmail.com

I love your kitchen! The fireplace is beautiful. I think topiaries would look great on top of your cabinets.

Eeeek!! You are so lucky to have a fireplace in your kitchen! How great is that?!?! As for above your cabinets - I think some larger baskets or displaying some serving platters would be nice. Maybe a plant or two?

1. ADORABLE family!
2. LOVE your fireplace in your kitchen. That's going in my idea file.
3. I would hang artwork above your upper cabinets...that might do the trick! Or buy vinyl lettering in phrases or Scripture that mean something special and put it up there. www.wonderfulgraffiti.com is a neat resource, or there are neat stores on etsy.com---just type in "wall lettering!"

Thanks for letting us look!

I LOVE the space above your cabinets and I would LOVE the opportunity to decorate up there, how fun!
I think that an old window pane would look great up there (on the long wall).
Some greenery and the glass jars grouped together with apples, lemons and limes (even though it is food). A sign would also look great... hobby lobby has some great signs that would look nice.
Pottery Barn has forks/ spoons and knives to hang that would look great on the shorter wall.
Oh, the possiblities!
My dream kitchen has a fireplace in it... someday!
Have fun!
