Playgroup and Recipes

Today, I hosted playgroup at our house. As usual, the adults had a great time visiting and the kids had a great time playing hard. I think there were 9 moms and 11 kids--that was definitely the most kids we have ever had over and I think they had a lot of fun. Neely loved everyone being here, but she was exhausted when everyone left. Here are a few pictures from today:

The big kids playing...
and eating lunch...
Sweet Sarah Kate playing in the exersaucer...
A few of the adults...
Yes, that is the famous Kelly and Harper--I was so excited to get to meet her today...

For the adults I made some yummy favorites and 1 new recipe--Poppy Seed Chicken, Sweet & Sour Green Beans, Grape Salad, Sister Shubert Rolls and Della's Fudge Cake. It was the first time that I made Della's Fudge Cake, even though it's a old family recipe and the Grape Salad. I am addicted to the Grape Salad after having it in a restaurant when we went to Auburn. I have to say that I thought the sweets were delicious. Here are the 2 recipes.
Grape Salad
1 (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 (8 oz.) carton sour cream
1 tsp. Vanilla extract
1 pound green grapes
1 pound red grapes
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup pecans, chopped and toasted
Mix cream cheese and sugar, then combine sour cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Combine the two mixtures and add grapes. Combine brown sugar and nuts and sprinkle over top. Cover and chill 12 hours or 24 hours

Della's Fudge Cake
Cake
Measure into a mixing bowl the following ingredients:
2 cups self rising flour
2 cups sugar
Put the following ingredients in a sauce pan and let come to a boil:
1 stick margarine
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup oil
1 cup hot water
Pour over dry ingredients and add 2 slightly beaten eggs and beat until well mixed. Then add 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1 tsp soda and 1 tsp cinnamon
Bake at 350 until done in a sheet pan (I think this was about 20 minutes)
Icing
Place the following in a saucepan:
1 stick margarine
4 tbsp cocoa
6 tbsp buttermilk
After this comes to a boil, add 1 box powered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla and 1 cup chopped pecans. Mix well and spread over warm cake
I have a lot of catching up to do, so get ready for a lot of posts in the next couple of days.
